The Ruth Lee Helicopter Winch Manikin is a modified version of the popular Man Overboard Manikin, developed in cooperation with experts from Bristow Helicopters (UK)*. This manikin is designed for training horizontal winching/lifting from water by rescue helicopters. It is 1.8 m tall, weighs 40 kg when dry, and up to 65 kg when wet/in water.

When rescuing a person who has been in the water for some time using a helicopter, it is crucial to lift them correctly. Improper lifting may cause cardiac complications due to the sudden release of hydrostatic squeeze.

To minimize the effects of water pressure, the casualty must be lifted horizontally. In collaboration with Bristow Helicopters' rescue experts, the Man Overboard Manikin was redesigned to meet this requirement. As a result, the Helicopter Winch Manikin behaves more realistically in helicopter winching scenarios.
